There have always been buildings that are reflections of people’s ideology, of their explanation of the world and the heavens, their cosmos. some of them were directly related with astronomical phenomenons and theories. Historically, people have formed their ideas about the universe, its emergence(creation) and structure based on the information they’ve acquired. One of the major sources of such information today are still the heavens together with quantum physics.

The design of the building is directly correlated with one of the pillars of contemporary physics - The General Theory of Relativity - the geometric theory of gravity by Albert Einstein. It’s basic feature is the space time continuum - a unified description of gravity as a geometric property of space and time, or spacetime.
In particular, the curvature of spacetime is directly related to the energy and momentum of whatever matter and radiation are present.
This principle of deformation of the spacetime tissue is translated in the spacial language of architect ure. The component that has greatest importance, symbolic and functional weight is the planetarium hall for dome projections. Just like an astronomical object would deform the continuum, the planetarium’s spherical volume deforms the initial parameters of the plot creating a spacial system orbiting around the projections hall.

The plot is located south of the ring of Sofia - one of the most beautiful, expensive and desir able sites of the city. It’s a spot in the park of the National Botanical garden on the north slope of Vitosha mountain.
The terrain is slightly tilted by 5-60  offering wonderful panoramic view of the capital. This is one of its features that had a visible impact of the design giving it a north-south orientation and a directed visitors approach.
This is a project directed to a huge group of visitors interested in astronomy but alongside this it is a design for  working place of a very narrow and yet  very peculiar group of professionals.  This dualistic character of the assignment has reflected in a  design with two differentiated parts - for visitos and for scientists.
